The Somali Christian Development Network (SOCDEN) congrats the Somali women’s fraternity in particularly Somali Christian minority on the occasion of the International Women’s Day 08 march, 2023. The International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.

SOCDEN is applyinh the 2023 theme by the United Nations, the 2023 theme for International Women’s Day is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” highlighting gender gaps in STEM education and careers — and calling attention to the online harassment many women face.

The Federal Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), commemorates International Women’s Day under the theme of “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” by calling on all the partners to collaborate in accelerating progress towards the universal positions.

Also, on this occasion of International Women’s Day, the United Nations in Somalia today congratulated Somali women for their continued contributions to their country’s development.

“From peacebuilding and reconciliation efforts, to the stabilization activities in areas recently recovered from Al-Shabaab control and the humanitarian response to the ongoing drought – Somali women continue to contribute significantly in all facets of public life,” said the UN Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative for Somalia, Anita Kiki Gbeho. Somali women’s contributions include organising the provision of humanitarian support – such as food and other essential supplies, and accommodation – for people affected by conflict and the long-running drought.

The United Nations in Somalia recognises the ongoing efforts of Somali women over the years and urges all Somali stakeholders, particularly the country’s leaders, to ensure greater inclusion, voice and participation of women in all national and state-level bodies as part of efforts to realise and sustain peace, prosperity and development in Somalia.

SOCDEN underlines that Somalia Christian women needs free expression movement and both locally and international protection desk as it will continue to Support their interest and act their freedom nationwide.
